A young woman from the Virginia's hires a man as guide to help her find her "husband" (really her brother) in the Colorado Rockies. The Civil War has decimated her home and she has decided to try to build a new life out west with her brother. She doesn't realize that the man she has hired has his own agenda, believing her "husband" is the man who left his sister pregnant. His sister died, along with her baby. Most of the book takes place as they travel across the mountains with her team of prize Arabian horses.
