Karyn Bosnak was a 26 year old television producer living in Chicago. For the past four years she was employed as a producer with a talk show in Chicago. Karyn became restless and wanted more than life in Chicago offered or at least so she thought. Karyn decided to go to New York to "find herself." So she gets a job with a court TV program in New York and finds a great apartment in Manhattan. Once Karyn moves to New York she soon realizes that New York is nothing like she thought it would be. First, the great apartment came without a deadbolt lock. Not only did the door not have a lock but there was a hole in the door where the lock should have been. When Karyn inquired about the lock she was told that she would have to buy her own. Of course the apartment super had one he could sell her for only $75.00. Instead of running back to Chicago Karyn pays the super for the lock and even buys an air conditioner (which was of course not furnished with the apartment).
In her desire to fit into the New York social scene Karyn uses her American Express credit card to buy designer clothes, shoes, and accessories. When she realizes that she can't pay her bill she stumbles upon the "Buy and Return Credit Payment Plan" whereby she buys something today and returns it in order to get the instant credit on her account. Since the charge would not be on her card until next months Karyn thinks she has given herself another month in which to come up with the payment. Of course this does not work.
Karyn starts getting other credit cards to help pay the bills on her American Express. In just over a year Karyn racks up over $20,000 in credit card debt and she loses her job when the court program is cancelled.
As a joke Karyn decides to start a website to ask people to help her pay off her debt. The response to her website is mixed but mostly positive and she reaches alot of people with her humorous account of trying to sell her designer items on e-bay and cut her expenses in order to pay down her debt. Then people start talking about her on other websites and blogs and newspaper reporters start calling for interviews. Of course there are also alot of nasty people who create anti-Karyn sites.
