This is the story of Karr, a young soldier which is assigned to his first mission on the primitive planet "Fronn". While on the planet, he and his comreds discover that a human legion of "mechs" (soldiers that are, unlike them the "arches", trained to fight on civilized hi-tech worlds) is illegaly helping one of the local primitive leaders to take over the planet. Surprisingly, the Central Control, the same authority which have established the galactic rules, is secretly supporting them. The "horde" of arches is now being hunted by the mechs, which have a far superior weapons. Can Karr and his fellow soldiers find a ship in which they could escape the planet, and warn the Earth of the betrayal of the mechs?

This book is full of chalenges to the young and unexperienced Karr and his veteran companions. They seem to encounter an INFINITE number of difficulties, but eventually, after great losses, they succeed.
