The Autograph Book Summary and Study Guide

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of The Autograph

This is basically a book about friendship, and the lengths we will go to maintain those friendships. Maggie, Jackie and Caroline are as different as night and day, yet, they have been best friends for well over 10 years. They fight, they laugh, they cry and they do all the things that friends do. They prove that friends are what makes us want to get up in the morning.

This book is told in the first person, for the most part, with Maggie being the story teller. Maggie is a strong willed, strong drinking, independent (or so she thinks) woman with two kids. She and her two best friends take off on a road trip to get an autograph from their favorite country singer, Patty Loveless. Why? Because Maggie is dying. Maggie thinks she is dying, Jackie and Caroline think Maggie is dying and because of that they want to get one more concert trip under their belts while they have the chance. Maggie has Patty's first LP that she wants autographed.
Three concerts in five days, that's the plan. And that is the premise of the whole book. Three women on the road.
