The Coffin Dancer is the second installment in the Lincoln Rhyme series. The book centers around a killer-for-hire called the Coffin Dancer (called such due to a tattoo on the killer that displays the grim reaper dancing with a woman infront of a coffin). Also returning in this volume is Amelia Sachs, Lincoln's protege and lover. Together they must find the Coffin Dancer before he kills again. Forensic detail plays a large part in the plot.

Parapalegic criminologist Lincoln Rhyme is on the trail of a professional killer known only by the nickname "Coffin Dancer" - from a tatoo glimpsed by a witness to one of his brutal killings. Unlike the movie version of the previous book, however, Rhyme is assisted by a much more lethal Amelia, this one a sharpshooter and a very able cop, not the rookie as portrayed by Angelina Jolie.

Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sachs once again do their dirty work to catch a killer that is very smart: almost as smart as Rhyme himself. The only thing they know about "The Coffin Dancer" is that he has a tattoo of a woman dancing with the Grim Reaper in front of a grave. This time, Rhyme seeks revenge because The Dancer killed his lover at a crime scene. This book flows like lava leaving nothing in its path as the two try and out smart the Dancer. But something Rhyme overlooked may have just gotten the one person that he could consider his love, Amelia Sachs, into a situation where there is no return.
