It's a "slow season" for Commissario Guido Brunetti of the Venice (Italy) police department and this is puzzling the respected officer. Then a beautiful young woman comes in to see him. He recognizes her as a nun who had previously help take care of his hospitalized late mother, and one for whom he had great respect. She tells him that she has left the convent after at least five patients have died unexpectedly. She fears that there is something more to this than a coincidence. So does Brunetti, who begins a slow, but thorough, investigation, an investigation that leads him far beyond the convent's medical wards. Another in the successful Donna Leon series.
