Kerensa is a poor cottage girl who lives in a small town in Cornwall that revolves around the rich, gentry St. Larnston family. She is obsessed by their home, the Abbas, which was once a nunnery, and it becomes a symbol of her fight to rise above her origins. A spooky, intriguing, and fun story about a heroine who we would hate if we didn't understand her, with a bit of romance thrown in. A classic gothic romance from Victoria Holt, who created the genre.
