Marie Robb went to Europe to find herself and try and decide what she was going to do with her life. She thought she wanted to be a painter, but her controlling father kept trying to force her into marrying a wealthy man who would give her children and a white picket fence to live behind. When Fredrik stepped out of the shadows, Marie blamed herself for listening to him and taking his version of a "shortcut." Unfortunately, both Marie and Fredrik knew that, lost and alone as she was, Marie had no choice but to accept Fredrik's offer of refuge in his mansion from the storm about to break.
