Lloyd Alexander Message Board

kristenskywalker posts on 2/7/2006 3:01:56 PM Exactly. Westmark makes you nutty. Very suspicious. I suppose that you have a different take on it though hobbit?
Featherbrain posts on 2/6/2006 11:02:18 PM I have not read Westmark, and so cannot pass judgement upon it, but I will comment that while Hobbit was reading it [both times] she became quite nutty and seemed to behave as if she was some one of the characters instead of my goofy sister & it messed up the way she thinks, much as Dune has done to some certain people and Elizabeth Wein's The Winter Prince did to me.
kristenskywalker posts on 2/6/2006 10:49:55 PM I suppose the biggest problem I had with the books was that I didn't feel like I was in the story or part of it. I like the books that make you feel like you are in the story. This story I felt like I was on the outside looking in. Also some of the best stories are the ones were you are pulling for someone. Just sitting there thinking GO, GO, GO! I didn't feel like this it these books. I read them twice, but it's been awhile maybe I'll go read them again and give you more details. Until then you can tell me how good they are and maybe when I read them I'll realize something that I missed.

Burrahobbit posts on 2/6/2006 8:43:05 PM Kristen I will rant to you here because I don't want to clutter the Tolkien Board with pulling too far off subject. Tell me WHAT exactly was laking in the Westmark trylogy. You can't really hold your argument if you're not prepared to back it up you know. I thought it was a lot more realistic that a lot of war stories. Instead of "The good guys go get the bad guys" there's a lot of wondering of which side is right, if any side is right etc. and the characters develope a LOT instead of staying like they were in the beginning. And I like (kor hate) how when Characters die, Alexander doesn't go an and on about how tragic it is. It just happens and they're gone. it's that much more brutal.
kristenskywalker posts on 2/6/2006 8:24:33 PM Even if they cant or wont remake the black cauldron why not at least make the book of three into a movie. But knowing how books turned into movies usually end up maybe it's a good thing they haven't.
Lady posts on 1/14/2006 3:10:53 PM depressing, isn't it? but disney did narnia (sort of). so maybe they'll go real people. I admit i was surprised and pleased that they didn't add any political correctness or cheesy modern propoganda. i mean, disney?? anywho. adna, you're behind in the times. how could you have not have heard of/read all these L. Alexander stuff??
Iona Aghavni posts on 1/14/2006 1:21:40 PM OK. I liked the Ella Enchanted Movie, even though it was nothing like the book. The book doesn't translate well into a movie. As for making The Westmark Trylogy into a movie. I would absolutely love it but I doubt they will atempt it. It would be dificult because it's nat exactly fantasy, but it happens in an imaginary world. I don't think the magority of people would get it. They would be like, "wait if this isn't the real French Revelution, where's the magic?" I am surprised that no one is atemtping to make the Prydain Chroncoles yet. They would already have a pre-maid audience from Lotr, Harry Potter, Narnia etc. I think the reason they don't is because Disney still has the copy rights from making "The Black Couldren" cartoon. But I don't really know, that's just my guess.
Adnamarine posts on 1/13/2006 8:43:38 PM The Misadventures of Sebastian? I'm shocked! I have actually never heard of that book by him before! Yeah, I've thought about that too Lady. Harry Potter is good of course. Ella Enchanted is so completely different from the book and such fun that you can't help but like it. It hasn't affecte the way I view the characters in the book at all. Now when I try to see Harry Potter in my mind all I can come up with is the Harry Potter in the movie. The Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia were excellent! I was surprised at how good Narnia was. Some people said it was going to be the next Lord of the Rings, and in some ways I can now see why the think that. The best books for them to make movies out of from Lloyd Alexander's books are The Westmark Trilogy (they're probably short enough to be made into one movie, maybe, if the plots were congested so that it didn't seem like you had three seperate endings at various places in the film), and The Prydian Chronicles. Any other books would work too, but those would be the best I think. I almost think it could work. I just hope it would either be something like Ella Enchanted where I can view it completely differently from the books (only much more serious:)), or like the LOTR or Narnia. Anything inbetween just wouldn't work. It has to be one or the other or I don't think I could stand it.
Iona Aghavni posts on 1/11/2006 8:41:28 PM this is someone who recently posted here but it was deleted so I am trying a different name. Now what was it I said before... Oh yes I was answering weather or not The Journey of Prince Gen was a good book. I liked it. It's much the same as The Arkadians, The Misadventures of Sabastian or The Iron Ring. Nice but dopey guy goes in searc of something, he meets up with a bunch of unusaul companions including a smart pretty girls who yells at him a lot and then discovers that what he's looking for is not what he thought it was.
Lady posts on 1/10/2006 7:35:03 PM ahem, this is the REAL lady. i felt a need to post, because i just got done with a rant about movies vs. books on the tolkien board. if you are talking about how they made the black couldron into an animated movie, though, i COMPLTELY agree. it was painful. if they made a real-people movie of them though, with a good director, i can see them being really good though. think lord of the rings and narnia. as long as the main characters weren't clean and as long as the colors weren't bright, and as long as there were no cheesy lines, i could enjoy it. have you noticed all the fantasy they're suddenly making into movies, though? whereas it was never too popular before. now it is REALLY successful! they're making eragon, you know. i'm hoping it's better than the books...
