Scuzzy New York private eye Harry Angel (Rourke) is hired by magnetic and mysterious Louis Cyphre (De Niro) for five grand to track down a missing singer named Johnny Favourite. Favourite reportedly suffered amnesia during World War II (it is now 1955) and received extensive plastic surgery to change his looks. The trail leads Angel to a voodoo cult in Louisiana, in particular a wild young woman named Epiphany Proudfoot (Bonet). Based on a potboiler novel by William Hjortsberg called _Falling Angel_, this 1987 horror noir by writer-director Alan Parker features some graphic violence and sex (which got Bonet fired from "The Cosby Show").
