Guo Liangui is 19 years old and has just arrived from the Chinese countryside to find a job in Beijing. He is soon hired as a messenger and receives a brand new bicycle. His willful constitution of countryman is sometimes the cause of unpleasant situations for the young man but Guo starts to be accustomed to live in a metropolis. One day, his bicycle is stolen and he's discharged by his company but his boss accepts to hire him again if Guo can regain it.
After days and nights of vain research, Guo discovers by chance that his bicycle belongs now to Jian, a student. Guo will steal it from the young man but is soon beaten up by Jian's friends. In fact, the man who stole Guo's bicycle sold it back to Jian at the flea market, hence the misunderstanding. Finally, the two boys agree to share the bicycle, each one using it 24 hours before giving it again to the other.
