Itinerant farm laborer Katie Phillips (Winger) lands a job on the large Iowa farm of Gary Simmons (Berenger), a strapping Vietnam War hero. She takes to his two children and is attracted to him, too, so he asks her to stay on after the harvest, so she does. But it turns out she's an FBI agent named Catherine Weaver and he's being investigated for white supremacist activity. She tries to assure her boss (Heard) that they've got the wrong guy, but eventually she realizes he's not what she thought she loved, and has to make some hard choices. Noted Greek director Costa-Gavras shot this 1988 thriller, written by Joe Eszterhas (better known -- or should that be worse? -- for "Basic Instinct" and "Showgirls"). There's a disturbing "hunt" in the woods with a black man as quarry, and several characters make unbelievably dumb decisions, so despite some strong acting, this turns out to be a so-so story.
