So Francie, who is nicknamed Gidget because she is a midget and a girl becomes a surfer. While trying to get moondoggies attention she is pursued by the Kahoona. What will happen?

Francie Lawrence (Sandra Dee) is Gidget who, like hundreds of other teenagers during summer vacation, heads for the beach. Soon she finds herself adopted as the mascpt of a group of college boys who surf at Malibu. As days go by, Gidget is increasingly attracted to one particular boy, Moondoggie (James Darren), a young law-student. But, their young romance is complicated when a surf-bum known as Kahoona (Cliff Robertson) makes a play for the naive Gidget.
