Avery is an excellent college swimmer who is returning after time off taken to support his son and girlfriend (Melissa De Sousa). After a successful meet, a college scout (Nunn) introduces himself and is interested in having Avery coming to swim for them. Unfortunately, his on-the-fringes friends Dre (Bonds) and Cashmere (Casseus) have angered the wrong person. A gun used in a drive-by shooting, and committed in a car matching Cashmere's, is planted in his car. The car carrying the celebrating trio is pulled over by police, the weapon found, and each is sentenced to prison. Avery initially has a difficult time, but an older and wiser cellie helps him. He also has support on the outside from his girlfriend and the scout.
