Gonzo is sad about not knowing his origins. When the words "WATCH THE SKY" and "RU THERE" appear in his breakfast cereal, he scans the heavens from the Muppets' roof, and is zapped to the stars, where Cosmic Knowledge Fish tell him that his people from space have been trying to reach him. On his return, he mows the words "I AM HERE" into the lawn. His message is seen via satellite at a top-secret national security facility, where Ed Singer is trying to persuade General Luft that similar messages seen around the world are from aliens using Earth contacts to plan an invasion.

Miss Piggy's big break at television news anchoring is interrupted when Gonzo bursts in to announce he's from outer space. He leaves with Rizzo and a man who claims to be from The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Aliens - actually, one of Ed's two goons, sent to kidnap him. Miss Piggy overpowers the other goon to get an exclusive, and learns the truth. So the Muppets, armed with Dr. Bunsen Honeydew gadgets, board the Electric Mayhem bus to attempt a rescue.
While Rizzo is imprisoned with the facility's lab rats, Gonzo is threatened with an invasive brain probe. As he waits in solitary confinement, aliens speak to him through his sandwich, telling him that they will land at midnight near the lighthouse. By the time Ed brings a skeptical General Luft to see his prize catch alien, Gonzo is gone: His Muppet friends have used invisibility and persuasion sprays and disguises to help him escape. With Ed "chasing" them in a slow-moving company vehicle, they rush their bus to the beach. There, crowds and reporters await the alien landing. Just when it seems it will never happen, a spacecraft appears. It's Gonzo's relatives! But his joy is marred by Ed's arrival with a very big gun; and, by the decision he must now make about which planet to call home.
