Pride and Prejudice (1940) Movie Review Summary

Actors: Greer Garson, Laurence Olivier

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Pride and Prejudice (1940)

Jane Austen's book comes to life in this classic romance about trying to overcome lies and revenge to find true love amidst the entanglements of social classes. This movie is a beautiful embodiement of love triumphing all and, likewise, good outlasting evil.

Based on Jane Austen's novel of the same name, the movie is beautifully filmed, but unfortunately not true to Austen's work. The clothes, the settings, although glamourous, do not reflect the true English 18th Century.
However, for an escape from today's world to a time of innocence and simplicity, this movie will leave you smiling long after it has ended.

Pride and Prejudice is just a fantastic old movie. Garson's (Elizabeth) quick wit – without ever being blatantly rude or uncouth – is perfect. Of course, Olivier (Mr. Darcy) is stunning and serious and just his presence in the room is enough to make Elizabeth perk up. They overcome much to be together – Elizabeth's family is just a riot. An overall great movie with comedy, romance and quit witty conversations that leave you smiling.
