This sequel, once again directed by Gary Marshall, finds Princess Mia Renaldi Thermopolis (Hathaway) settling into the fictional land of Genovia where she is expected to inherit the throne from her grandmother, Queen Clarisse Rinaldi (Andrews). But Viscount Mabrey (John Rhys-Davies) wants his grandson to rule Genovia. Princess Mia can only become Queen if she gets married within thirty days. So Princess Mia gets primed for an arranged marriage to an English suitor while falling in love with the young man who is competing with her for the throne.
