Sgt. Jack Ramsey (Selleck) and officer Thompson (Rhodes) pursue robots which become renegades in a futuristic LA. The bulk of their daily activity is rounding up domestic chore saving types of machinery manufactured in Japan. Eventually, they must hunt down and stop mastermind killer Charles Luther (Simmons) who is devising robot bugs that kill as well as a smart bullet; a sort of smart bomb in miniature. Luther is tracking down his own runaway in the form of his girlfriend Jackie Rogers (Alley). She has taken the design patterns for his lethal technology and nothing will stop Luther from getting them back. Ramsey falls for his partner as they put their lives at risk against the Luther's robots. With his own son kidnapped by Luther, Ramsey must conquer his fears and the deadly mechanized foes before confronting his nemesis.
