and frames him. He is accused and sentenced to death. Sinbad's friend, Proteus(Joseph Fiennes) steps in and offers himself as a replacement, having faith that Sinbad was telling the truth and is innocent. They set Sinbad free to go in search of the book, in trust that he will
return before Proteus is put to death. At first he wants to go on with his "retirement" plan, off to Fiji, but he finds out Proteus' fiance is on board his ship and she offers him a small fortune to find the Book. Throughout the movie they battle sea monsters, giant fish, giant birds, sirens and for Sinbad, his own conscience.
