Louisiana, Charlotte Bonnard and her sister Lucy live in a superb mansion lost in the middle of the bayous. Tourists often stop and stay for the night. Lucy is recovering from a severe depression and must still take tranquillizers because she pretends to be able to talk with the ghosts of the people who died in the swamps. Both sisters hide a terrible secret so when Lucy falls in love with Matt Rutledge, a tourist staying at the mansion, Charlotte fears that Lucy might talk. Furthermore, strange events are happening : Lucy's dog is savagely killed during a stormy night and Etienne, the family friend, is found murdered in the bayou by Lucy who suspects Charlotte to be the murderer.
Gothic in the South. Great cinematography and actors but poor screenplay à la Hitchcock.
