Germany, the Medieval Times. The possessed inhabitants of a small village lost in the forest are slaughtered by Crusaders who built a church on the dead corpses. Hundred of years later, the vault is accidentally open and a subtle mechanism invented by the architect of the church closes the only door of the religious building. Trapped, the visitors of the church are attacked and possessed by what lied beneath.
Poor acting and screenplay but superb cinematography and some scenes worthy to appear in an anthology. After Mario Bava and Dario Argento, Michele Soavi perpetuates the italian horror tradition.
