Danny and Jennifer Robertson (Kinnear and Holly) are a couple who want desperately to have a baby but find themselves unable to conceive due to what doctors call Danny's "lazy sperm." Repeated trips to a fertility clinic don't bring about the desired results and Jennifer in particular becomes very despondent about the situation. One day Danny finds out that his wife lied to him and provided her doctor with a sperm sample without his consent before he had even agreed to start trying for a baby. The lying and deception cause a wedge to be driven between the otherwise loving couple. To compound the problem, a new female architect named Lindsay Hamilton (Hennessy) has a thing for Danny and deliberately lures him out of town on business to try to seduce him, causing Jennifer to wonder if her husband is really as devoted to her as she had always believed him to be.
