Jane, a farmer, reluctantly allows a troupe of actors to rehearse in her barn after finding her sister Abigail gave them permission. In exchange, they do chores around the farm: feeding chickens, etc. She falls for the show's director, who is engaged to Abigail, while she is already engaged to a local boy. When Abigail turns into a ridiculous drama queen and leaves for New York, Joe turns to Jane to take over her role, including dancing and singing.
