New Mexico, the early forties. Woody -Big Boy- Harrelson and Billy -Pete- Crudup are friends living the traditional way of life of the cowboys. Little Boy, Harrelson younger brother, has been hired by Sam Elliott, a wealthy ranchman who owns almost the whole Hi-Lo country. Deceived by his brother, Big Boy decides to join with Pete the team of Hoover, an old ranchman and he falls madly in love with Mona, the inconveniently married wife of one of Elliott's lieutenants. Even if Pete is also secretly in love with Mona, his friendship is stronger and he doesn't interfere with Big Boy's love affair.
Tradition versus Progress in the West. Masterpiece.
