Jonathan Rhys-Meyers stars as Josh Minnel, a troubled eighteen year old who loves his adoptive parents. He confronts his birthday with his troubled teen friends. He is especially close to lesbian Bella Sotto (Fairuza Balk), with whom he talks to about the harsh dream he has all the time. Out of the blue, Walter (Matthew Modine) comes back from Mexico and visits Josh as he is celebrating with his parents, with whom he promised that he would go to college. Angry, josh walks out and goes to hang with Bella and friends in the park. This is where we learn that Josh supposedly lost his parents in a car accident and that after ten years Walter took off from the parents that adopted them. Walter tells Josh he is staying at a hotel and that he can find there for the next few days. Josh eventually goes to see Walter who turns out to be a thief/conman. They go on a heist together along with Jesse Bargo (Felice A. Beato) stealing furniture out of a house and delivering it to Skarney (Michael Madsen). The harsh nightmares continue for Josh. Walter takes Josh an a trip to an abandoned warehouse and suddenly Josh realizes this is the place that was in his dreams. Walter tells him that their father was a thief and that they were murdered on a deal gone wrong. Walter hands Josh an envelope filled with newspaper clippings. Back home, Josh studies these clippings and gets into a fight with Walter who knows that being a thief is in his blood. They go out on one last trick and Skarney comes back to haunt them, in a real shoot'em up bloody ending.
