The setting is a small town in Spain in 1940. Ana, six years old, and her sister Isabel attend the projection of the movie "Frankenstein" at the town hall. Ana is very impressed by the film and badgers so much her sister with her questions that Isabel finally tells her that it's possible to see the monster of Frankenstein in an abandoned farm close to the village. The following days, Ana goes secretly to the farm on several occasions and eventually discovers there a man searched by the police force.

Ana brings food to the man and recreates with him the scene between the monster of Frankenstein and the small girl she had seen in the movie. The man is finally killed by the police officers of the village and Ana flees from home. Wishing to die, she eats a mushroom which her father had said to be poisonous. The mushroom contains a hallucinogenic substance and Ana starts to dream of the monster of Frankenstein.
