The movie starts with Matthew (Josh Hartnett) meeting the love of his life. They have a great time for a short time and all of a sudden she is gone, nowhere to be found. Two years later, his life is back in full swing and he even got engaged. Everything is going great for him, until one day he think's he sees his former lover in a cafe near his house. He risks his career and his future marriage to try to find her again. He thinks that he has a strong lead on finding her a few times, but runs into nothing but bad luck. The harder he tries to find her, the more people he begins to hurt along the way, including himself.
