This is the story about the first human to become the Easter Bunny. James Marsden plays the character of Fred O'Hare. Fred is a lazy twenty-something that still lives with his parents and does not have a job. He completely lacks motivation, constantly making excuses for why he does not want to work. His parents get fed up with this. Using a family intervention technique they gather round the dinner table to ask Fred to move out. Fred's sister takes pity on him, knowing he does not have anywhere to stay. She encourages him take on a house-sitting job she is supposed to do because she is afraid of the dogs she is supposed to feed at the house. Fred gladly accepts. Fred goes to the beautiful mansion in Beverly Hills and is surprised how opulent the house looks.

During this same time, on Easter Island, the bunny that is next in line to take over the job of the Easter Bunny (called E.B. for short) argues with his father. E.B. (with the voice of Russell Brand) does not want to have the job of the Easter Bunny but instead wants to play drums in a rock band. When E.B.'s father tries to force him to follow his predetermined path to become the Easter Bunny, E.B. escapes and runs away. E.B. uses the magical transport system to travel to Los Angeles. He gets a map of the star's homes, goes to the Playboy mansion, because that is where the bunnies are supposed to be, but he is turned away. He finds himself at the same house where Fred is house-sitting. When he introduces himself to Fred, at first Fred runs away thinking that it is a hallucination and he needs rest to come back to his senses. But the next morning E.B. is very much real and very much there in the house with Fred. E.B. tags along with Fred, as Fred looks for a job. Fred fails miserably in his job quest. E.B. just wants to play drums. E.B. gets a chance to audition for David Hasselhoff and is invited to appear on the "Hass Knows Talent" show.
Back at Easter Island, E.B.'s father, Mr. Bunny (with the voice of Hugh Laurie) is frantically worried about his missing son. He sends his team of bunny trackers called the "Pink Berets" to look for him. The second in charge of the candy factory, where they make all the Easter candy, is an Easter Chick named Carlos (with the voice of Hank Azaria) who is jealous of E.B.'s position. He wants to be the next Easter Bunny so he plots to over-throw the rule of Mr. Bunny.
In a moment of inspiration, Fred suggests that he could be the Easter Bunny if E.B. helps him. E.B. agrees and trains Fred to be the Easter Bunny. The Pink Berets are constantly on the tail of E.B. To confuse them E.B. fakes his own death by dressing a turkey with his shirt and putting it into a big pot of boiling water. The Pink Berets think that Fred has killed E.B. so they capture Fred and take him back to the candy factory on Easter Island. E.B. has to decide between his performance on the Hasselhoff show or helping save his friend. E.B. decides it is better to help his friend. E.B. goes back to Easter Island just in time to save Fred. They fight with Carlos who has turned into a half-bunny half-chick by magic. They defeat Carlos and it is decided that E.B. and Fred can be co-Easter Bunnies to share the responsibilities. Fred's family is happy that he finally got a job.

This film is goofy and silly, but also at lot of fun to watch.

The scene when they first see the candy factory in operation. The mechanisms used to make the candy are wonderful.
Opinion about the main character:
Fred does not want to settle for a mundane job, knowing he is destined to do great things. Nobody believes in him, but he believes in himself and that is enough.
