Jamie returns to Bali on the one year anniversary of nightclub bombing where she was nearly killed. Jamie survives a terrorist bombing at a Bali nightclub and returns on the one year anniversary. She had been on assignment as a “Great Adventure” tour guide. She decides to return under the guise of a ceremony honoring those killed. Her real intention is to find and thank Gabe, the man who rescued her after she helped injured people when the terrorist attack took place. Gabe nursed her back to health. Haunted by dreams of explosions, soot, and screaming she is suffering, and in need of closure.

Her handsome and loving boyfriend Miguel, had asked her to marry him and she'd turned him down minutes before he went into the club, one of two targeted to be bombed. So many people died and suffered horrific injuries. Jamie herself had a broken arm and cuts on her face requiring stitches. She couldn't get serious about Gabe beyond their allowing each other physical comfort to ease the pain of all the death and destruction around them. Gabe wanted her heart and course she couldn't having just lost Miguel the love of her life.

She returned to the states to heal only to learn that her boss and best friend Larson was in the final stages of pancreatic cancer. He does not want her to go back for the one year anniversary celebration. Bali, is not for you he says.

Bali is picking up the tab and Jamie really does need to be there so she can move forward. She finds Gabe and he is very hurt and angry that she left. He thought they had a connection in the midst of so much death.

Jamie's host lost his pregnant wife in the attack and has forgiven the bombers. He makes Jamie feel welcome in his extended family household. Jamie is recognized by at the ceremony as a hero and is extremely humbled.

Gabe finds her as she is leaving for the airport and they have a heart-to-heart conversation. They decide to play things by ear and admit they want to see each other again in the future. When Jamie returns home to the states, she will be able to give Larson the friendship and care he needs in his last days. The second time in Bali helped Jamie on her healing journey.
Best scene in story: My favorite scene was when Jamie and Gabe hooked up at the end.

Opinion about the main character: I loved Jamie's character, she was strong and loved learning about people.
