Finn is an ex-army ranger and is used to dealing with violent situations, and his instincts tell him that the murder is somehow linked to Emma. His suspicions are confirmed when a man breaks into her house to leave her thousands of dollars and incriminating photos to aid her in divorcing her husband. Finn is determined to protect Emma, and Emma is grateful to him since she has no one else to turn to. Their attraction builds into an affair, complecated by the fact that Emma is still married and has promised not to announce the divorce until after her husband's political campaign is finished.
When another one of Emma's friends is murdered ,Finn realizes that time is running out for them to find the killer. Evidence indicates that things are not quite as ordinary in Pointe Judah as they appear on the surface, and that many of the people in town have dangerous secrets. When Emma is kidnapped it is up to Finn to put the pieces of the puzzle together and save Emma from an unidentifiable enemy.
