Tony Linden learns that his family has lost their estate in a game. He immediately decides to court the new owner, and hopefully keep the estate in the family. Because of Tony's bad reputation, he decides to take along his cousin Jon. The two men will switch identities, and thus allow Tony the opportunity to observe his prospective bride.
Meanwhile, Alex decides that the only honorable thing to do is marry the true owner of the estate. But she wants to make sure he is a decent man, and so decides to switch places with her disabled cousin Sarah.
When Tony and Jon arrive, Alex and Tony start to fall for each other (he shares her passion for antiquities). Meanwhile, shy Jon and Sarah also begin to fall in love. Of course, all four think they have fallen in love with the wrong person...
