Fatal Distraction Book Summary and Study Guide

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Fatal Distraction

Eliza H. is a celebraholic living in New York city and working at a small publishing house as an editorial assistant. A serious underachiever, Eliza H. spends most of her time buying celebrity magazines like People and Us and obsessing over all matters pertaining to famous people. The offspring of an aspiring Broadway actor and a ballet dancer, Eliza H. has fame seeking in her blood. Eliza is excited and envious when her best friend Danny starts dating a famous director and her other best friend Dinah starts dating a wannabe white rapper named Lylo Wingate. When Eliza's boyfriend Alvin dumps her, Eliza decides to turn her life around. Although Eliza H. has entered a treatment program for her addiction to celebrities and is attempting to maintain a clean lifestyle, circumstances conspire to pull her back into an obsession with celebrities. When Dinah and Lylo get into a car accident that kills Buster Rosen, a beloved 87 year old man, the media is whipped into a frenzy regarding the case. Suddenly, Eliza's best friend is being stalked by paparazzi and will be featured in the trial of the century. Although Lylo was driving the car, rumor has it that Dinah was actually the driver who ran over Mr. Rosen. Although Eliza should be supporting her best friend through this crisis, all she can think about is that Dinah is getting her celebrity moment while she is languishing on the sidelines.
