Dhampir Rose Hathaway, her former teacher, dhampir Dimitri and their allies must find out who killed the Queen, who was murdered in the previous book, and find her best friend Moroi Lissa's sister before Rose's trial. Sydney, the Alchemist Rose met in Blood Promise, who also helps hiding Rose now, leads them to a group of Moroi, humans and dhampirs, where they are safe. They find out who knows the name of Lissa's half sister - a past teacher in the academy who turned herself into a Strigoi. With help from Victor Dashkov, who kidnapped Lissa and was broken out of prison by Rose in Spirit Bound, and Robert, his brother, they manage to turn her back into a Moroi and she tells them Jill, a new student in the academy, is Lissa's half sister. They set out to find her.
Once they find Jill, Victor and Robert kidnap her. Rose, Dimitri, Sydney and the teacher follow them and find them. Under the influence of Spirit, Rose gets angry and accidentally kills Victor. She is later comforted by Dimitri, who admits he still loves her. They sleep together and Rose decides to break up with Adrian. She also tells Dimitri that she cannot be with him unless he forgives himself.
Back in court, while trying to find out who killed the Queen, Lissa is in the running for Queen. She passes her trials successfully, but until Jill is brought into court, she is unable to actually be the queen. Rose, Dimitri, Jill and the others manage to arrive to court right in time. Rose presents Jill as Lissa's sister, and thanks to the alchemists, also presents the murderer.
The killer, Natasha, a Moroi related to Christian, Lissa's boyfriend, tries to kill Lissa and escape, but Rose takes the bullet. The guardians capture her. In her final moments of being awake, Rose believes she is dying - but she later wakes up in a room in court, Dimitri sitting by her side. He tells her she will be Lissa's guardian and he will be Christian's, meaning they can be together. Later, she finds out Lissa has been crowned queen.
Best part of story, including ending: I liked this story because it was compelling. As the final book in the series, it gives answers to all questions. It is breath taking.

Best scene in story: My favorite scene was the end scene, in which Lissa is crowned. I thought it was a beautiful ending to a great series.

Opinion about the main character: I love that Rose is willing to sacrifice anything for the people she loves - whether it's her freedom or her life.
