Safe Haven Book Summary and Study Guide

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Safe Haven

This is the story of a woman who has escaped her abusive husband and who is working to rebuild her life. Katie/Erin works at Ivan's, a restaurant on the water in the small town of Southport and she has run from her abusive husband. She is not sure how long she will stay, though she likes the small town and the people there. She mostly sticks to herself and spends time either working or in her tiny rented cottage that is hidden in a grove of trees a slight distance from town. Soon she finds she has a new neighbor and the two become friends while at the same time Katie/Erin befriends the local store owners daughter Kristen.

Alex, the store owner begins to take notice of Katie/Erin and her shopping habit's and soon begins stocking items just for her. When he realizes that she walks everywhere he pulls out his deceased wife's bike cleans it up adds a basket and leaves it outside Katie's/Erin's Cottage. Soon they begin spending time together and Alex realizes that he is in love with her despite what he has guessed about her past due to his previous career in the Army.

Katie/Erin soon realizes that she is in love with Alex as well and on their first date she tells him about her past and the man she is hiding from. Eventually Katie's/Erin husband, a police officer, tracks her down and tries to kill her but ends up killing himself.
Best part of story, including ending: I really liked this story because it pulled me in. I wanted to keep reading it to find out what was going to happen to Katie/Erin, where her relationship with Alex would go and if her husband would find her.

Best scene in story: My favorite scene is when Katie/Erin reads the letter from Alex's former wife Carly. This is my favorite scene because it is when Katie comes to the realization that her neighbor Jo was actually Carly's ghost and that she has given Katie her full blessing.

Opinion about the main character: Katie/Erin is a strong character with a lot of resourcefulness and wit.
