Violet Brantford has always been secretly in love with Adrian Winter, only he is engaged to marry her twin sister, Jeanette. Violet and her twin are very different, Violet is shy and bookish where her sister is a society leader. Adrian Winter, the Duke of Raeburn, goes through with his marriage with Jeanette even though he has heard rumors of infidelity. He began to think Violet would have been a better choice, but he was apprehensive on how shy she is society. After the wedding, he finds that he and Jeannette get along well and is quite content and happy in his marriage, until he suspects that Violet is having an affair. After investigating the situation, he learns that his wife is not having an affiar, but is actually her twin sister he married under false pretenses.
Violet is devastated when Adrian angrily confronts her with the truth, and decides to leave him so she can decide her future. Adrian, who realizes how much he loves Violet after she leaves him, searches for her and convinces her that they belong together. The couple must face Violet's insecurities and Society's cruel eye before they can settle into their happily ever after.
