The famous detective M. Hercule Poirot is involved in a baffling case of a quarrel that led to the murder of Sir Reuben. According to the witness Parsons, he overheard a quarrel that supposedly took place between Sir Reuben and his nephew Charles Leverson at the end of which a loud thud was heard. The next day Sir Reuben is found dead at his study desk. The accused Charles Leverson has got no way out of the trouble as all the evidences go against him. However, Lady Astwell stands by his side. She has an intution that Charles was not involved in the murder. Instead, she accuses her secretary Mr. Trefusis of committing the crime.
