"If you don't take this note to the police and get them involved I will kill a lovely blond school teacher somewhere in Napa County. If you do take this note to the police, I will instead kill an elderly woman active in charity work. You have six hours to decide. The choice is yours". Billy just thought it was a sick practical joke. He did however, show the note a friend Lenny who is on the police force. Lenny decided that is was just someone playing a practical joke and told Billy not to worry about it.

The next day Billy went to work and after he left work while appoaching his car Lenny stopped him and told him that a blond teacher was murdered in Napa County. Billy then noticed another note on his car windshield that said, "If you take this note to the police I will kill a mother of two, if you don't take this note to the police I will kill a man that not very many people will miss. That night he received a phone call from Lenny's house but no one would speak. Later that night Billy found Lenny murdered.

After a usual night of bartending, Billy Wiles' typical ordinary life ceases to exist. He finds a typewritten note on his windshield giving him an odd choice. It said if he went to the police, a schoolteacher would be killed and if he didn't go to the police, an elderly woman would be killed. The note gave him a time table of six hours.

At first, Billy wonders if this is some sick joke until a blond schoolteacher is found murdered. He is faced with more notes, more choices, and more deadlines, and dead bodies. The killer has forced Billy to play his game of choice. If Billy tries to go to the police now, he will be arrested for each murder. The killer has placed evidence at each crime scene proclaiming Billy the murderer.

Still, Billy thinks about taking his chances with the police in order to stop this maniacal killer until his lovely fiance's life is threatened. Although Barbara lay in a light coma, she is the love of his life and his reason for living. He will protect her at any cost, even if it means he must kill to save her. He begans to investigate who the killer may be. His goal is to reach him before Barbara becomes his final victim.
