Ed Harris stars as Detective Kyle Bodine in this noir thriller similar to "Body Heat" and "Double Indemnity". Ater leaving a grisly murder scene, Kyle and his partner Lamar Dickey (Benecio Del Toro) go to a bar for some drinks. While there, Kyle meets Rachel Munro (Madeleine Stowe) and they start up a conversation but she leaves the bar soon after. It's obvious that Kyle likes her so he get her information off a credit card statement from the bartender. Kyle finds her on the street the next day and a romance quickly blossoms. But there is trouble in paradise as Kyle finds out Rachel is married to wealthy banker Rupert Munro (Charles Dance). The marriage is in trouble as Rupert was having an affair and was abusive to her. Kyle gets sucked into this love affair. Finally, after showing up with his partner for a call of spousal abuse, Rachel decides to leave Rupert and goes to Miami. Rachel quickly returns and sees Kyle. He takes her to her house where she has a confrontation with Rupert. She kills him. Kyle, torn between love and his job decides to help Rachel cover up the murder. But there was one problem. Lamar has an uncanny knack for uncovering the evidence.
