L'ATALANTE is a movie directed by Jean Vigo in 1934.
Jean Dasté and Dita Parlo are newly-weds. Parlo has followed Jean aboard his barge that sails up all year long the rivers of France but the young woman is soon bored by this life without surprise and her husband doesn't understand her innocent needs of a more exciting social life. One day she leaves the boat a few hours in order to visit Paris. Persuaded that she's left him, Jean sets off, abandoning his wife in the city. Later, the second mate, Michel Simon, desperate to see Jean wasting his life since his wife's departure, decides to find the young woman and bring her back.
