Adam Sandler puts a humorous spin on Jimmy Stewart's character from the classic movie Mr. Deeds Goes to Town. After his grandfather dies, Mr. Deeds, then a small-town pizza delivery man, inherits the $40 billion fortune. Suddenly, he finds himself living the life of the rich. He quits his job, moves to New York, buys a mansion and meets a nice girl. He even hires a butler and runs his grandfather's pizza empire! While Sandler lacks Stewart's class, he more than makes up for it with wit and outlandish antics.

When Longfellow Deeds is asked to come to New York for a business trip he is unsure. He is supposively the only living relative of Preston Blake, a rich business owner who died leaving Deeds (Adam Sandler) 40 billion dollars. When he falls in love with a lying reporter (Wynona Ryder) he gets hurt and made fun of.
