Gus (Dillion) is an electrician who has the chance to fulfill a lifelong dream of buying an old bowling alley with some of his co-workers and friends. Unfortunately things are not on his side. The alimony payments he has to make to his ex-wife Leonora (Sciorra) who has gone back to school, are crippling him to the point where the bank refuses to loan him the down payment he requires. To make matters worse, his current girlfriend Rita (Parker), a nurse, is pressuring him for them to move in together and he's dragging his feet. Being full aware of the fact that once Leonora marries again she loses her right to alimony, Gus decides to try to speed up the process by getting Leonora together with as many potential husbands as he can find. He solicits all the help he can get from his friends. His plan doesn't appear to be working until Leonora meets Dominic (D'Onofrio). Gus's attempts seem to be succeeding but then both Gus and Leonora realize that they are not ready to commit to their perspective mates because they are still in love with each other.
