Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Strange Wilderness

A man has to take over the responsibility of a wildlife television show when his father dies. Steve Zahn plays the lead character Peter who takes over the failing television show called "Strange Wilderness" that was hosted by his father. Since his father passed, Peter tries to continue the show, but he knows very little about animals, especially wild ones. Even his own crew thinks he is terrible. A television executive named Ed Lawson (played by Jeff Garlin) tells them the show will be canceled in two weeks. A new show hosted by the popular television personality named Sky Pierson (played by Harry Hamlin) will be the show's replacement.

A crazy friend of Peter's father named Bill Calhoun (played by Joe Don Baker) shows up. He tells Peter he found Bigfoot. He wants money for a map that shows the location somewhere in South America. If Peter does not give him the money, Calhoun plans to sell the map to Sky Pierson for his show instead. Peter asks Calhoun for a few days to get the money and that he will meet him at his cabin. Peter gets a crew to go with him. Sharks attack one of the crew Danny (played by Peter Dante) while they are filming sea lions. They are attacked by gang-bangers who knock their teeth out, sending Peter and Fred (played by Allen Covert) to the dentist. Junior (played by Justin Long) steals nitrous oxide from the dental office so they can sell it to get the money they need to continue, but the tank leaks causing them to all get high from the gas while riding in a motor home to Calhoun's cabin.

When they finally reach Calhoun, they learn he already gave Pierson the map. Calhoun is able to recreate the map by watching video footage from the surveillance cameras that he has everywhere because he is so crazy and paranoid. When he watches footage, of when he gave the map to Pierson, the footage also reveals Pierson had sex with his wife. This makes Calhoun furious. To get even with Pierson, Calhoun gets super tracker, Gus Haden (played by Robert Patrick) to help Peter. While outside the cabin, taking a piss, Peter gets his penis swallowed by a wild turkey. The try everything to pull it off of him until finally a doctor is able to remove it. The turkey is part of a government research project so they get a reward for locating it, which gives them enough money for the trip.

Once they arrive in South America, a guy named Dick (played by Blake Clarke) takes them to meet Gus. That night, Gus steals their stuff and runs off with Cheryl (played by Ashley Scott). Piranhas attack Dick in the river, killing him. Cheryl returns and she got the map back by sleeping with Gus. They find Pierson and his crew. They are all dead in the jungle. They find the cave of Bigfoot and they start filming. When he comes out of the cave, they mistakenly shoot him in a panic. For the TV show, they try to make it look like Bigfoot hung himself. The crew breaks up after this. In the final episode of “Strange Wilderness,” they show footage of Danny with the shark. The television executive loves it. Since Pierson is dead and there is no other wilderness show, they decide to keep “Strange Wilderness” on the air.
Best part of story, including ending: It is very funny, even most of the film is completely ridiculous.

Best scene in story: The scene where Peter's penis is swallowed by the turkey and what they try to do to remove it, is hilarious.

Opinion about the main character: Peter is a goof ball, but we like him anyway.
