Abide With Me Book Summary and Study Guide

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Abide With Me

This book continues the adventures of Raymond Tyler Jr. as he navigates his way through professional life as an attorney and his private life as a gay man. It also chronicles the (mis)adventures of his circle of friends. As the novel begins Raymond has just been offered a federal judgeship position, which pleases him to no end. Finally, he feels as if all the long, hard hours of work have begun to pay off. It isn't long before Raymond realizes that in order to be approved as a federal judge he must go through a rigorous background check and have his entire life scrutinized by the FBI. Raymond wonders as to whether his sexual orientation will be an issue, as well as the fact that he lives a fairly open gay life with his live in lover Trent. Raymond's best friend and former girlfriend, Nicole Springer, is now happily married to one of Raymond's best friends, Jared Stovall. As an actress Nicole has been a bit disappointed that her career has not yet skyrocketed to the levels she wanted it to. When she is offered a role on Broadway in a production of Dreamgirls, she seizes the opportunity to star in a leading role. Although the role means she has to be separated geographically from her husband, Nicole convinces herself that she has to take the role. When Nicole meets her cunning and beautiful understudy, Yancey Harrington, she has no idea of the lows that Yancey will sink to in order to sabotage Nicole's career. Former pro football player Basil Henderson is still struggling to make sense of his bisexuality and his flawed relationships with both males and females. Although he is Raymond's friend, Basil harbors some unresolved feelings towards Raymond. Basil stars seeing an analyst in the hopes that a professional can aid him in the process of getting his act together. When startling information comes to light during the background investigation regarding Raymond's partner, Trent, it appears that Raymond's judgeship may be jeopardized by the man he loves. Will Yancey be able to defend herself against the conniving Yancey?
