Before she knows it, she is up at the North Pole, examining one of the greatest finds in the history of mankind. NASA found a meteorite containing life from outer space! This meteorite could win the election for current President Herney, because his adversary, Senator Sexton, is a popular critic of NASA.
Things seem to be going great, until some of the civilian scientists who are there confirming the discovery start finding faults in the authenticity of this rock. Rachel gets caught up in a mad chase to find the truth behind this forged meteorite before she loses her life to the Delta Force, a hit squad determined not to let the truth get out.

President Zachary Herney is losing ground it the polls to challenger Senator Sedgewick Sexton. Sexton's main issue is government waste, with a special focus on the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
The discovery near the Arctic Circle of a meteorite buried in ice that apparently has evidence of life on it could scuttle Sexton's campaign. A special embarassment is that his daughter, Rachel Sexton, works for the National Reconaissance Office the aerial spy agency that ostensibly found the first evidence of the meteorite.
As a team of respected scientists is assembled to announce the find with Rachel among them to brief the White House staff one of the scientists sees a discrepancy in the data. He is killed by a microbot a flying robot about the size of a mosquito controlled by a mysterious Delta Force team hidden near the site.
As other scientists become aware of the descrpancy, a team of four including Rachel and popular television science show host Michael Tolland heads out over the ice to check data that requires that they be some distance from the site. One of the scientists is killed and Tolland, Rachel and Corky Marlinson escape miraculously. They have the evidence to prove that the meteorite was placed under the ice, and that it may be a sham. The Delta Force team is ordered by it's mysterious controller to kill them.
The list of victims grows. Rachel's boss, NRO Director William Pickering is apparently the victim of a car bomb when he goes to a secret meeting with the president's chief of staff. Several further attempts are made to murder Rachel, Tolland and Marlinson.
If the discovery of life from outer space cripples Sexton's campaign, his campaign manager's discovery that he is taking money under the table from corporations that want NASA's mission privatized is a killer. He has every interest in proving that the meteoriate is a fake. The president and his tough-as-nails chief of staff have every interest in making sure the doubts don't surface until after the election.
Apparently trapped, Rachel has no one to turn to but her father, from whom she has been estranged for many years. And by the time she does so, it may be too late.

Rachel Sexton is the "estranged" daughter of a Senator who is running for the Presidency. She works for the NSA and is called to the White House by the President to help be an unbiased observer to a secret prior to its release. The secret turns out to be something that could catapult NASA into the next century.

But, when she and the other impartial observers discover something that is out of the ordinary they are suddenly hunted down. There is a Special Ops team that is out to kill them.

There are two other sub stories that are wound through this which is Senator Sexton may not be on the up and up in his campaign. Also, Rachel is drawn to one of the other observers, and this relationship is touched upon as they are fighting for their lives, from the Artic to Washington DC.

A presidential election is drawing near with opposition Senator Sexton tying his election hopes on NASA bashing, citing mission failures, cost overruns, etc. NASA supporter, President Herney is oddly silent. The main character, Rachel Sexton, daughter of the Senator, is brought in to validate an exciting discovery, her presence requested by the President. The discovery is a meteor, buried 200 feet deep in a glacier, which has fossilized evidence of life in outer space. Throughout the book a shadowy figure (the Controller) is directing the murderous actions of a 3-man Delta team, and when Rachel and others discover problems with the meteor, this team is directed to eliminate them.

When she arrives, she teams up with a group of scientists and engineers to prove the validity of the sample. However, they are ambushed and pursued by Delta Force, members of NASA, and most incredibly... an extremely high-level government member is the mastermind behind it.
