Ten months earlier, Meghan's father had suddenly disappeared, presumed to be lost in a tragic accident, where cars, trailer trucks and fuel tankers plunged through the railing into the icy Hudson River. But no trace has been found of Edwin Collis' body nor wreckage of his car. Meghan's mom, neither widow, nor wife is unable to convert joint assets she needs to retain ownership of the family inn. Before his disappearance, Edwin Collins had taken all the cash of his substantial insurance policies. Now in absentia, he becomes the suspect in a brutal murder.

Meghan than decides to pursue the identity of the dead girl, find her murderer, and clear her own father's name.
As she unravels the story, she gets a little to closer to the horrible truth that is very shocking!

Meghan Collins is doing a story on a retired Senator when a girl around her age is brought in to the hospital where she is. The girl has been stabbed and when Meghan goes over to look at her, she is shocked to see that the girl looks almost identical to her. Her father was presumed to be dead over 9 months ago from a bridge accident. The investigation into his death now seems to be leaning towards the idea that he is in fact still alive. As the story developes more secrets are uncovered and more people are killed. These events all seem to be linked to Meghan's dad who officals are almost certain is still alive. Meghan starts an investigation of her own in hopes to find answers and clear her father's name. Through this she learns that her father had a double life. In her digging for answers she begins uncover answers about all the events that have been taking place. But her uncovering of answers puts her life in danger.

A man in business led a double life because when he was young he only had one place to turn to and as an adult he wanted to have places to turn to when something wasn't going for him. He was thought to be killed in a bridge accident but he wasn't he was killed by his coworker. THe year was in 1996. Bernie a coworker of meghen the businessmans daughter was obsessed with meghen and spied on her quite often. It was a murder mystery because the businessman was killed. Phillip the coworker of the businessman who killed the businessman pretended to love meghens mother he might have really. Bernie had been to prison for obsession and he had an inner struggle. He had a lot of techno gadgets to watch women. they couldn't find the killer for the businessman. they didn't find the villian until the end. it was very focused on the book. many people in the book are businessman. the dead woman annie was thought to be killed by her father. the businessman was in water and was mutilated. there was an sutopsy for annie. they were searching for the businessman. there was a little romance between Mac and meghen and between phillip and meghens mom. phillip and meghen both had guilt for the businessman's death.
