Texas, just before WWI. Sherif Nick Corey is despised by the people of Potts County although he avoids trouble and never arrests anyone. He hates his wife as much as she hates him and must tolerate her half-witted brother who's a peeping Tom. Little by little, Nick is imagining a plot that could eliminate all the people who are harassing him. Firstly, he will secretly get rid of the two pimps of the local brothel and make another sheriff look like the murderer. Nick begins to believe that he's the second Messiah and that he has been sent to Pottsville to eliminate the scum of the earth.

Without a doubt, a masterpiece.
