This is the story of Kate, a single working mom, raising her teen-age daughter Amelia, who has to come to terms with the fact that she may have committed suicide at school. Being an attorney, Kate has to collect all the facts before she can come to grips with her grief.

After several mysterious phone calls to Kate claiming that Amelia did not commit suicide, Kate begins to work with the one detective that is willing to help get to the truth. Kate spends week going through Amelia's phone, text messages, and social media networks looking for clues to who her daughter was spending time with. She is so riddled with guilt for not knowing her who daughter really was.
Amelia was accused of cheating on a paper at school. Kate found text messages from an unknown boy. She found that Amelia and her best friend were no longer friends because of a boy. She found pictures of Amelia in her underwear on Facebook, and they had been shown to everyone at school. Amelia had even joined a secret club at school. She wondered if all of this was not like her normal, smart, dependable daughter to kill herself.
Thru interviews with all of Amelia's friends, Kate discovers how Amelia had changed recently. She was more secretive. A loner. Meeting another girl's boyfriend secretly.
While reconstructing Amelia's life, Kate relives a part of hers. How she left home early, had no relationship with her mother, her one night stand while in law school.
As the truth slowly unravels, Kate finds the mysterious 'boy' and though she will never get over her grief, she can now come to terms with the lost of her only child.
Best part of story, including ending:
I liked the way Kate had to unravel her daughters life.
Best scene in story:
I liked the portion of the story when Kate finds out how her daughter really was killed.
Opinion about the main character:
It's too bad Kate had to work so many long hours so that Amelia had to feel compelled to find company in all the wrong places.
