Rulagh accepted a job with the Interstellar Humane Society hoping he would achieve his dream of visiting other planets. Now six planetary years later, his fantasy is about to become reality as he is assigned a project on an obscure out of the way orb called earth. Though they detests murdering “innocent” creatures, Rulagh is to kill the shrennan, pets left behind by unthinking tourists. Called chupacabras by the native Puerto Rican population, his superior tells Rulagh to use caution because the creatures are deadly and feral.

Sonia Rodriguez mourns the death of her father though she had no contact with him in a month and had not seen him in over a decade since she was a preadolescent. She inherits everything he possessed with the stipulation she resides in his Cabo Rojo house for a year. When she arrives she finds her dad has a house guest obviously not of this earth as Rulagh has scaly skin and a feathered crest. While they work together to destroy the chupacabras, the alien male and the earth female fall in love with one another.

THE HUNTRESS is a powerful star-crossed science fiction romance that uses a legendary Puerto Rico monster as the impetus for the lead couple to meet. The story line works on several levels as the audience will accept the existence of the Interstellar Humane Society especially with their struggles due to uncaring wealthy tourists. The romance is very interesting as Rulagh knows he defies the prime directive and Sonia was burned by her previous lover who stole her valuable Star Wars collection. It is the earthly irony cleverly interwoven into a fabulous plot that makes Barbara T. Karmazin's a fun one sitting read.
