Gambit posts on 8/9/2005 5:06:11 PM It's all about "March of the Penguins" and "Flight From Death." Those are the two to watch this year. "Flight From Death" comes to DVD in Sep. and "March of the Penguins" is out in the theatres now!
Sam Kelly posts on 7/27/2005 5:11:39 PM so the documentaries people are saying to see are Murder Ball, Flight from Death, and Sidewalk Astronomer?
Laura G. posts on 7/18/2005 6:34:29 PM Murderball is a great documentary. I haven't seen "Flight From Death" but did look it up. Gabriel Byrne is in it, very interesting.

John Park posts on 7/18/2005 4:34:17 PM Perhaps not a dying breed, I just more meant that for me specifically I had not been engaged by many documentaries recently. Flight from Death if i recall doesn't really feature any scene of grotesque violence. I hear murderball is pretty good. Just not playing in an area near me that is convinient enough to get to yet. I will check out more about Sidewalk Astronomer and in the future be more careful with my wording ;)
Maggie posts on 7/18/2005 3:29:42 PM If you think documentary is dead, go watch Sidewalk Astronomer, about the wonderful guy, John Dobson, who invented the Dobsonian mount for telescopes, then took his telescope onto the city streets of the USA to show everyone the beauty of the night sky. One young woman to whom he showed the moon in his telescope, didn't even know that men had landed there! Unfortunately there were all of 8 people in the cinema...
Joshua Vasquez posts on 7/18/2005 2:12:33 PM Actually "Flight From Death" isn't a violent movie. It's about behavior, and is very thought provoking. I also heard alot of buzz about "Murderball."
Jody T. Bixby posts on 7/15/2005 10:31:39 AM Why do you state they are a dying breed? I would recommend "Vera Drake" to anyone and eveyone. I almost missed it here - most docs don't stay here long but there is always DVD. "Flight from Death" is something I would never pick up - most films with lots of violence turn me completely away. Any other suggestions for me? Thanks.
Jon Park posts on 7/14/2005 11:20:15 PM Documentaries seem to be a dying breed save what you see commissioned on tv. I wasn't sure what to expect from Flight from Death when I saw it at Newport. It ended up being a pretty indepth evaluation as to why certain individuals act the way they do. Given the 'death reminder' how people react some of it seemed 'obvious' but the proof and the studies were very intriguing and interesting. Would recommend you watch this if you manage to get a copy or have some time.
David Langdon posts on 7/11/2005 9:12:59 PM I saw Flight From Death last year at the Rhode Island International Film Festival and it was amazing! Talk about a much needed documentary...it really showed me why people behave violently and gave insight into how we might diminish war and violence worldwide. Does anyone know when this film will be out on DVD? I have to buy a copy for my brother. He fights all the time.
Joshua Vasquez posts on 7/7/2005 5:24:26 PM Last year a ton of good documentaries came out, this year seems kind of slow. I know "Flight From Death" is coming out, but what else is being released this year?
