posts on 5/10/2006 2:49:53 AM Ms. Armstrong, If one uses honest rigorous critical thinking, one MUST be an atheist. Linda Elders of the California Critical Thinking seminars agrees with me as do several others. What say you? posts on 4/30/2006 12:31:25 PM I have read three of your books and have decided to read "The Great Transformation" now. I really admire the simple way in which you explain complex issues and are also able to capture the spirit of the times. I felt that you should know my view because your insight and writing moves me, similar to spiritual practice itself.

posts on 4/14/2006 12:21:52 PM I know this is a long shot, but if there's a way to email K.A. I'd appc.it. I'm a grad.stud. working on a thesis inv. fundamentalism (broad.speaking). I really apprec. K.A.'s work and the hist.insight she offers. David --My thoughts are that there are many positive fruits that we can discover from our traditions. Still we need to encourage reevaluation of those seemingly 'unquestionable truths'on the path to improving our personal and societal lives. How far are we willing to support 'our tribe' and what are we giving up when we resort to rationalizing (justifying?)the irrational? What are the costs?

Gulnar Esmat posts on 2/6/2006 3:04:22 PM dear Karen, I am an Egyptian Moslem who is also a fan of your writings and I unfortunately wasn't able to attend your lecture in the AUC. I think that as an enlightend theological scholar, you have a responsibility to try and help in the very unfortunate situation that this issue of the Danish cartoons has put the whole world in. You have studied the life and mission of our beloved prophet and regardless , whether one is Moslem , Christian or Jew , I think one has to agree that he was a good, strong and great man. He was and is the role model of billions of moslems across the ages and he deserves the same respect that anyone should give to other prophets. I don't see anyone drawing cartoons of Christ or Moses, and as a Moslem we would never condone the ridicule of any of God's prophets. Please try and send a message to the Western world that we pray 5 times a day to god and we ask of him to bless our prophet and his descendants as well as Abraham and all his decendants. This is ingrained in our religion and in the teachings of our prophet. We cannot even say Jesus or Moses or Abraham without calling them our lord Jesus , or our Lord Moses. If the west wants to attack moslems let them attack the Moslem population , or the Moslem figures of our days , but do not do unto others what you would not want to be done to you. Using our beloved prophet in cartoons is degrading , not to Moslems alone, but to the whole world, because some values are above freedom of expression. We repect all Of Gods prophets so we demand that our prophet be treated in the same way.I know that my mail might sound as purposeless, but your standing in the theological and scholar world of the west will give your defence of our beliefs a credibility which , unfortunately many of our moslem brothers now lack because of the current extremists and their narrow mindedness. thank you for your patience with my message and I would really appreciate if you would answer my mail. Thank you and El SAlam Alleikom "Peace be upon you"
poul ericsson posts on 2/4/2006 3:43:21 PM I hope to reach Karen Armstrong by this e-mail. Especially, Karen, i hope for your comment to/ recommadation for/ the recent situation for the danish society - and probably for all westeners -. I think of the very "famous" drawings of the prophet Muhamed published by a danish newspaper. As a private dane I´m very much worried for not only my country, but for the global situation as such. I think you have some comments that could be worth listening to. Greetings from a private dane age 58 in Denmark. Poul Ericsson
